Sowela Technical Community College will host its first-ever College Transfer and Military Fair on Wednesday, March 8, from 10 a.m. to noon in the Sycamore Student Center at the Main Campus in Lake Charles. Current students and alum of the college are welcome to attend. Each military branch and multiple in-state universities will be in attendance.

“With Sowela and public four-year Louisiana universities accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), Sowela students have various transfer options,” said Joseph W. Lavergne, director of recruitment and career services. “This event allows students to see where they can take their Sowela credits and apply them towards a bachelor’s degree.”

One of the key benefits of a Sowela education is the transfer options available to graduates. The college offers two transfer associate degrees, one in science and one in arts, that fully transfer to in-state four-year universities. These are great ways to earn general education requirements at a lower cost.

In addition, Sowela has 16 transfer agreements and counting with different universities in various program areas. These agreements in business, accounting, nursing, criminal justice and others empower SOWELA graduates to efficiently put their associate degree credits towards a bachelor’s degree.
