Eagles down Sulphur; Pickering wins

SULPHUR — Ethan Frey worked five solid innings, while Jake Smith drove in a pair of runs as the Rosepine Eagles knocked off Class 5A Sulphur on Tuesday in non-district play, 5-2.

Originally scheduled to be played in Rosepine, the game was moved to McMurry Park in Sulphur due to field conditions at RHS. But it didn’t matter as Rosepine was resolute in grinding out a win.

Frey worked five strong innings, striking out eight players while giving up two runs on five hits. Casey Tilley worked the final two innings for the save, giving up two hits.

Frey had a pair of hits and drove in two runs, while Smith had two hits and two RBIs as well. Grant Ducote added a pair of hits in the win.

PICKERING — The Pickering Red Devils picked up another late-inning win on Saturday afternoon, knocking off the Bolton Bears, 11-10.

Pickering owned an 8-5 lead entering the seventh inning, only to see the Bears tie it up to send it to extra innings. The Bears took a 10-8 lead in the top of the eighth, but the Red Devils rallied for the win with three in the bottom of the frame.

Jace Donaldson picked up the win in relief, working 4.1 innings. He gave up five runs on seven hits, while also collecting three hits and three RBIs offensively.

Kalob Hagan added a double and three runs scored, while Logan Sneed had three hits and two RBIs. Mason Askew also had two hits and two RBIs.
