SULPHUR – Hits were hard to come by between Elizabeth and Anacoco on Tuesday morning.
But it would be the third-seeded Bulldogs who did just a little more with their opportunities.
John Fee drove in a pair of runs, while Alex Chamberlain fired a three-hitter as Elizabeth knocked off the second-seeded Indians in the Class B semifinals at the LHSAA state baseball championships at McMurry Park.
Chamberlain, in earning the complete-game win, limited Anacoco to just one run on three hits with five strikeouts. He was able to keep the Indians off-balance throughout the game as Anacoco scored its only run of the game in the bottom of the fifth.
After a scoreless first inning, Elizabeth got on the board with a two-run single from Fee in the top of the second off of Anacoco starter Landry Alligood. The Bulldogs added two more in the third for a 4-0 lead, chasing Alligood from the game as Drew Tebbe entered in relief.
Tebbe kept the Bulldogs scoreless the rest of the way despite giving up a pair of hits. But the Indians couldn't get anything going as Elizabeth recorded a double play when it appeared as if Anacoco might threaten.
Anacoco pushed across a run in the fifth as Alligood scored. He also doubled with two outs in the seventh and stole third, but was stranded to end the game.
Parker Cloud had a pair of hits and a run scored for Elizabeth, while Fee had a hit and two RBIs.
Alligood, Dylan Fitzgerald and Tebbe each had a hit for Anacoco in the loss.
Elizabeth will play in the Class B finals against Choudrant, currently scheduled at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
