South Beauregard falls in three to Brusly

Britton Coleman had a triple and an RBI, while also throwing six solid innings to lead South Beauregard to a 7-5 win in Game 2 over Brusly, forcing a third game. The Panthers won that game, 7-4.

LONGVILLE – The South Beauregard Golden Knights just couldn't find the timely hits.

The second-seeded Golden Knights fell to seventh-ranked Brusly in a best-of-3 Class 3A quarterfinal series deciding game, losing by a score of 7-4 on Saturday.

Brusly won the series, 2-1, despite losing the second game, 7-5, earlier in the day.

The Panthers scored three times in the first inning off of starter Carter Caraway, who had earned the save in Game 2.

However, SBHS answered with a run in the bottom of the first to close the gap to two runs, 3-1.

Brusly pushed its lead to 4-1 in the fifth, but the Golden Knights scored twice to get within a run.

But the Panthers pulled away with two runs in the sixth and another in the seventh to seal it's trip to Sulphur and a matchup against third-seeded Luther at 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Aiden Braud worked 4.1 innings for the win, giving up three runs on two hits with four strikeouts. He also had a hit, an RBI and a run scored.

Brody Hernandez added an RBI-double, while Wade Curry added a hit, run scored and an RBI. Evan Daigle scored three runs for the Panthers.

Caraway suffered the loss, working 4.2 innings. He surrendered four runs on three hits with five strikeouts.

Offensively, Britton Coleman had a hit, run scored and an RBI, while Rett Bowman had a hit and a run scored.

Rett Bowman homered, while Britton Coleman threw six solid innings as the South Beauregard Golden Knights evened the series with Brusly at a game apiece in picking up a 7-5 victory in Game 2 on Saturday.

South Beauregard owned a 3-0 lead after two runs in the first and a run in the top of the second. Brusly responded with four runs in the bottom of the frame to take the lead.

The Golden Knights tied it up in the third, only to see the Panthers get the run back to go up, 5-4.

That would be the last run of the game for Brusly as the Golden Knights took the lead for good in the fourth and added an insurance run in the sixth to seal the win.

Coleman gave up five runs on four hits with seven strikeouts over six innings to earn the win, while Carter Caraway pitched the final inning to earn the save.

Bowman had a homer, two RBIs and three runs scored, while Coleman added a triple, a run scored and an RBI. Alec McCain chipped in with a hit and an RBI.

Evan Daigle suffered the loss on the mound despite collecting a double and two RBIs. Brody Hernandez added a double and an RBI, while Wade Curry had two hits and two RBIs.
