SIMPSON – It was the wrong day for Simpson's bats to fall silent.

The second-ranked Broncos had just one lone hit in a 5-3 loss in the Class C quarterfinals on Thursday as they fell to the seventh-seeded Harrisonburg Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs will take on Hornbeck at 10 a.m. on Tuesday in the Class C semifinals at McMurry Park in Sulphur.

Harrisonburg pushed a run across in the first inning to take the lead. The Bulldogs eventually moved out to a 5-run advantage after scoring three in the fourth and one in the fifth to stun the home crowd.

But Simpson fought back.

The Broncos scored a run in the bottom of the sixth, despite not getting a hit and pushed two across in the seventh around a hit by Quintin Williams in the seventh.

They still had a chance in the bottom of the seventh with runners aboard but were unable to score.

Preston Miller suffered the loss, giving up a run in two innings with five strikeouts. Ethan Nash pitched the final five innings.

Williams had the lone hit and an RBI, while Chase Taylor also had an RBI.

Blake McEntyre earned the win for Harrisonburg, giving up one run on no hits with eight strikeouts. He also had a double and a run scored.

Lane Dupuis had a double and two RBIs for the Bulldogs, while Nathan Edwards and Jacob Bradford each had a hit, run scored and RBI.
