LONGVILLE – The South Beauregard Golden Knights just couldn't get that timely hit.

SBHS was limited to just three hits over five innings by Brusly pitcher Liam Dunn as the seventh-ranked Panthers knocked off the second-seeded Golden Knights in the first of a best-of-3 series in the Class 3A quarterfinals on Friday, 4-2.

The two teams played again on Saturday afternoon, with the right to play in the state tournament in Sulphur next week on the line.

South Beauregard took the initial lead with a run in the second inning, but the Panthers were able to tie it up in the third inning.

Brusly took the lead for good in the top of the fifth with a pair of runs and SBHS answered with a run in the bottom half of the frame to cut the gap to 3-2.

But the Panthers added a run in the seventh for good measure to claim the win.

Dunn worked five innings, giving up two runs on three hits with three strikeouts. Aiden Braud had two hits, including a double with two RBIs, while Mason Chauvin had a double among his two hits with two runs scored.

Rett Bowman suffered the loss, giving up three runs on five hits with seven strikeouts over 5.2 innings.

Bryce Jensen had a hit and an RBI for the Golden Knights, while Britton Coleman added a double. Alec McCain had a hit and run scored, while Drake Evans drove in a run.

Merryville….0

MERRYVILLE – It just wasn't Merryville's day.

The sixth-seeded LaSalle Tigers advanced to the Class 1A state tournament next week in Sulphur with an 18-0 win over the third-ranked Merryville Panthers in the state quarterfinals on Friday.

After a scoreless first inning, LaSalle erupted for five runs in the second, two in the third and two in the fifth to open up a 9-0 lead.

The Tigers added nine more runs to the tally in the sixth to seal the victory.

Causey Owen suffered the loss for Merryville, giving up seven runs on four hits over three innings, striking out two.

Blaise Duncan had a double for the Panthers in the loss, while Owen, Ross Cournoyer, Zach Cleveland and Cameron Davis each added a hit in the loss.
