Lady Hornets take Class C runner-up trophy

BATON ROUGE – The Hornbeck Lady Hornets accomplished a little history Thursday night.
The Lady Hornets captured the Class C runner-up trophy at LSU's Bernie Moore Stadium on the first day of the LHSAA state track and field championships.
Behind a number of solid performances, the Lady Hornets scored 64 points in the meet, finishing behind Reeves, which won the title with 85 points.
The Hicks Lady Pirates were eighth in the team standings with 26 points, while the Evans Lady Eagles were 12th with 10 points.
The Lady Hornets had one first-place performance as Hannah Mitchell topped the shot put competition with a throw of 9.27 meters.
Hornbeck also got three runner-up finishes, coming from Hannah Dahlhoff in the 800 meters, Hailey O'Banion in the 3200 meters and Cali Wedgeworth in the discus. Dahlhoff also had a third in the 400 meters.
The Lady Hornet quartet of Dahlhoff, Jayda James, Kayleigh Park and O'Banion were third in the 1600-meter relay. Park was also third in the 3200 meters, as was Danzey Forehand in the discus. James added a fourth in the 1600 meters and was fifth in the 800 meters.
The Lady Pirates picked up two event championships as Alyana Gilbert was first in the 1600 meters, while joining forces with Maci Charrier, Avery Coffman and Reese Stephens to win first in the 400-meter relay.
Charrier added a fifth in the 400 meters, while Cheyanne Jackson was fourth in the 100 hurdles.
Evans' Bailey Ramsey was the lone scorer for the Lady Eagles as she captured the state title in the 300-meter hurdles.
On the boys' side, the Hornbeck Hornets took third place in the team standings with 60 points, finishing behind champion Hackberry, which had 76 points, and Jehovah-Jireh, which had 71 points.
Hicks was seventh with 38 points, while the Simpson Broncos and Evans Eagles were 12th and 14th with 20 and 12 points, respectively.
Hornbeck's lone first-place finish came from Ky Pittman in the javelin as he also grabbed sixth in the shot put.
John Jett had a second in the 800 meters, a third in the 1600 meters, a fourth in the 3200 meters and teamed up with Cayden Fox, Brady Alexander and Jaren Mitcham to take third in the mile relay.
Mitcham was also a part of the 800-meter relay team that finished second overall, teaming up with Parker Alexander, William Weeks and Adam Rhodes.
Fox was fifth in the 800 meters, while Christian Condon was third in the 3200 meters and fourth in the 1600 meters.
Rounding out the Hornbeck scorers was Joseph Nolen, who was fourth in the 110 hurdles and sixth in the 300 hurdles.
Hicks and Simpson both had an individual event champion as Joseph Williams won first in the long jump for the Pirates, while Ean Allain grabbed first in the 3200 meters for Broncos.
Williams also scored fourth in the triple jump, while Allain also took second in the 1600 meters and joined forces with Aiden Martin, Ethan Weatherford and Marshall Yates to finish fifth in the 800-meter relay.
Conner Harper had a solid day for the Pirates as he was the runner-up in both the 100 meters and long jump, while taking third in the triple jump. Kase Busby rounded out the Hicks' scoring as he was fifth in the high jump.
Lane Williamson and Caleb Williams each finished third in their respective events for Evans, the 800-meter run and 300-meter hurdles.
