ROSEPINE – Casey Tilley was dealing on Friday night.
The southpaw controlled the cards all night, limiting the seventh-ranked Fisher Gators to only two hits in a 9-0 win for the second-seeded Rosepine Eagles in Game 1 of a best-of-3 Class 2A quarterfinal series.
The two teams squared off again on Saturday, with the winner qualifying for the state tournament next week at McMurry Park in Sulphur.
Rosepine wasted little time giving Tilley the advantage, scoring five runs in the bottom of the first to set the tone.
From there, Tilley was able to relax and pitch. He went the distance, giving up no runs, while striking out nine in the matchup.
The Eagles added single runs in the third and fourth, before tacking on two in the fifth en route to the victory.
Jake Smith went 2-for-4 with a double, run scored and an RBI, while Ethan Frey added a pair of hits and two runs scored.
Cole Donahue added a double among his two hits, with two runs scored and two RBIs.
Landyn Haas suffered the loss, giving up nine runs on six hits with six strikeouts.
Haas and Trey Usey each collected a hit for the Gators in the contest.
