Merryville upends Lady K's, 9-8

MERRYVILLE – In a battle of district champions from Beauregard Parish, it took a walk-off hit with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to win. 

Alyssa Duncan drove in the game-winning run for the Merryville Lady Panthers as they knocked off the South Beauregard Lady K's on Tuesday, 9-8. 

With the victory, the Lady Panthers, the District 4-1A champions, improved to 16-5 overall, while the Lady K's, the winners of District 4-3A, dropped to 17-14 on the season. 

The game was a back-and-forth affair featuring timely hitting from both teams. 

The Lady K's took the initial lead by scoring a run in the top of the first, with Merryville answering with a run in the second to tie it up, 1-1. 

Both teams added a run in the third, but the Lady K's took a big lead with a run in the fourth and four runs in the top of the fifth for a 7-2 advantage. 

However, Merryville responded with two in the fifth and four in the sixth inning, claiming an 8-7 lead going into the seventh. 

South Beauregard's Morgan Eaves hit her Parish-leading 15th and 16th home runs of the season in a loss Tuesday at Merryville. The home run total is also a SBHS single-season record.

The Lady K's pushed a run across in the top of the frame, but Duncan delivered in the bottom of the seventh for the Lady Panthers, lifting them to victory. 

Riley Dyson pitched all seven innings for the Lady Panthers, giving up eight runs, while striking out three. Alyssa Cloessner pitched two-thirds of an inning for the Lady K's, being tagged with the loss. 

Duncan finished with a double among her three hits, while she also had a run scored and three RBIs. Lindsey Townsley, Brylee Lanier and Hannah Harrington each finished with two hits in the win. 

Harleigh Ferguson drove in a run for Merryville, while Kirsten Bell had a triple and two runs scored. 

For the Lady K's, Morgan Eaves continued her torrid power-hitting display with two homers, raising her total to 16 on the season. Maggie Bowman and Makenna Rutherford each finished with a run scored.
