Wampus Cats fall to North Vermilion

Leesville's Juan DeDios (7) and his Wampus Cat teammates bowed out of the playoffs on Tuesday in a loss to North Vermilion.

MAURICE – The playoff run for the Leesville Wampus came to an end Tuesday night.

The 13th-seeded Cats struggled out of the gate, falling in the second round of the Division III playoffs to No. 4 North Vermilion, 4-0.

The Wampus Cats fell behind early on, trailing by three goals at the intermission, two of which coming on an own goal and a penalty kick.

Leesville surrendered a goal early in the second half, but rebounded to play solid on defense in the final 30 minutes.

The Wampus Cats, which won the district title with a perfect record, had won 10 straight matches entering the contest. They finished the season with a record of 10-5-1.
