ANACOCO – The Hicks Pirates are teetering on the playoff edge. 

Needing a big win to keep their hopes alive, the Pirates garnered a big victory on Monday at Anacoco High School, beating the Evans Eagles in District 3-C play, 52-46. 

With the victory, Hicks improved to 5-18 overall, 2-5 in district, while Evans dropped to 10-12 on the season, 1-5 in the league. 

The Pirates claimed an 11-9 lead at the end of the first quarter, but Evans responded with a 14-10 scoring edge in the second to take a 23-21 advantage into the halftime intermission. 

By the end of the third period, Hicks had regained the lead, 31-30. 

Over the final eight minutes, Hicks outscored the Eagles, 21-16, to secure the victory. 

Hayden Doyle led the Pirates with 14 points, while teammate Kase Busby chipped in with 12 points. 

Evans got 17 points from Wyatt Austin, while Wyatt Fletcher added 10 points.
