EVANS — Five players reached double figures as the Evans Lady Eagles took an 86-62 victory over the Converse Lady Wildcats on Saturday night.

The Lady Eagles never trailed en route to their second victory of the season in front of a capacity crowd on homecoming night.

Coach Haley King’s squad was paced by 24 points from junior point guard Madison Gollihugh, including 15 in the first half as the Lady Eagles took a 42-33 lead into intermission.

The Lady Wildcats cut into Evans’ lead in the third quarter, outpacing the Lady Eagles by one point. But the Lady Eagles responded in the final frame, recording their highest scoring quarter of the night and outscoring Converse 26-15 to stretch the lead to as much as 30 points.

Joining Gollihugh in double figures were Chloe Benjamin with 18, Bailey Ramsey with 16, Riley Haus with 14 and Triniti Bridges with 13.

The Lady Eagles will be back in action Thursday night when they host the Reeves Lady Raiders.

The Evans Eagles looked poised to take a homecoming victory Saturday night, but fell late to the Converse Wildcats.

The Eagles controlled the tip and junior guard Wyatt Austin opened the scoring with a layup giving Evans a lead it wouldn’t surrender until the final frame.

The game was tightly contested from the tip, but Evans couldn’t maintain its 4-point halftime lead. The Eagles scored just 11 points in the third quarter, while surrendering 17 points – and the lead – to Converse.

Junior guard Ryne Kennedy made two 3-pointers in the final frame to draw the Eagles to within one possession, but the Wildcats were able to dribble out the clock and secure victory.

Zane West led the Eagles in scoring with 23 points. Kennedy finished with 14 points – 11 coming in the second half.

The Eagles will be back in action Thursday night when they host Reeves.
