Hornbeck topples Stanley; Anacoco, Pitkin winners again

PLEASANT HILL – The Hornbeck Hornets improved to 2-0 on this young season with a 66-50 win over the Stanley Panthers at the Pleasant Hill Tournament on Friday night.

Hornbeck led by only four points at the half, 35-31, as the Panthers kept things close. However, the Hornets put together a 19-8 surge in the third quarter to move out to a 15-point cushion, 54-39.

It was all Hornets after that as three players reached double figures in the win.

Brylon Evans had a game-high 22 points to lead Hornbeck, while Jaren Mitcham and Brady Alexander finished with 19 and 15 points, respectively.

Hermon Collins paced Stanley with 19 points.

Anacoco Indians…. 56

Simpson Broncos….44

SIMPSON – The Anacoco Indians held Simpson to just 18 first-half points as they held on for a 56-44 win over the Broncos on Friday at the Simpson Tournament.

Anacoco (3-0) doubled up on Simpson in the first half, taking a 36-18 lead at the break.

Simpson (1-1) managed to trim the deficit to 12 heading into the final frame, but Anacoco withstood the charge to get the win.

Landry Alligood paced Anacoco with 21 points, while Shaun Riley finished with 13 points.

Zach Vargas had 21 points in the loss for Simpson.

Pitkin Tigers…….57

Starks Panthers…48

GRANT – The Pitkin Tigers opened up a 10-point lead after one quarter and never looked back, claiming a 57-48 win on Friday at the Fairview Tournament.

Pitkin improved to 2-0 on the season.

Jaycee Thompson led a balanced attack for Pitkin with 16 points, while Hayden Lavergne added 14 points. Dalton Maricle finished with 12. 

Garrett Humphrey led Starks with 16 points, while Chance Guidry netted 13 points.

GIRLS' GAMES

Holden Lady Rockers….49

Simpson Lady Broncos….33

SIMPSON – Piper Shirley was once again in double figures, but the Simpson Lady Broncos fell to 0-3 as they dropped a 49-33 decision to the Holden Lady Rockets.

Shirley led the Broncos with 13 points, while Comish paced the Lady Rockets with 17 points.
