The East Beauregard Trojans were supposed to play a district game Friday against Basile.

However, they wound up playing a solid Class 3A program in the Sterlington Panthers, falling in defeat, 50-8.

With the win, Sterlington improves to 3-2 overall, while East Beauregard drops to 2-2 on the season.

The Panthers raced out to a big lead, scoring 43 points before East Beauregard scored a touchdown en route to the victory.

Sterlington opened the game by getting a 19-yard TD run from Grant Mangrum for an 8-0 lead.

Zach Crain pushed the lead to 15-0 on a 3-yard TD run, while Mangrum connected with John Barr on a 27-yard touchdown toss, opening up a 22-0 lead.

J'Keldrick Miller scored on a 2-yard TD run before a big 43-yard run by Romaji Hatfield and an interception return pushed the lead to 43-0. But Sterlington would lose its shutout when Kane Atkinson scored from 2 yards out for a 43-8 deficit.

A late 96-yard TD run by Trammell Collin closed out the scoring in the contest.

The Trojans had 298 rushing yards, led by Atkinson, who had 108 yards, while Gage Hildreth had 14 carries for 89 yards for the game.
