WEATHER WATCH: Another cold night for SW La. coming

Another cold night is on tap for Southwest Louisiana tonight, but first the area is experiencing dangerous wind chills this morning.

The National Weather Services’s Lake Charles office is reporting single-digit wind chill values across much of Louisiana with northerly winds of 15-25 mph and gusts up to 30 mph.

“Combined with the cold temperatures, this is producing dangerous conditions this morning,” the agency said.

Wind chills are expected to drop once again into the single digits tonight and into Wednesday morning.

NWS-Lake Charles said brisk north winds will continue through this afternoon, making conditions feel blustery.

“Wind speeds will become light and variable late this evening and through the overnight hours,” the agency said.

Temperatures are likely to range from the low 30s to the middle 30s today. Most locations will receive a few hours slightly above freezing this afternoon.

“Temperatures will quickly drop below freezing once the sun sets this evening,” the agency said.

A hard freeze warning will be in effect overnight tonight until about 10 a.m. Wednesday.

NWS-Lake Charles said Wednesday morning is likely to be the coldest morning so far this winter in Southwest Louisiana with temperatures dropping into the teens for most locations. All locations will experience 14-20 hours of sub-freezing temperatures tonight into Wednesday morning.

A community wide boil advisory has been issued for all customers served by Beauregard Parish Waterworks District No. 6 (Junction Community). The advisory is due to a water outage caused by the severe cold and will be in effect until rescinded by the state Department of Health.
