Four Leesville tennis players qualify for state tourney

By Daniel Green | BWS Sports
After the completion of the regional tennis competition last week, four members of the Leesville tennis team will be participating in the LHSAA Division II State Tournament next week at the University of Louisiana-Monroe.
Lina Mills-Zacapa and Alvaro Chicharro will represent Leesville in the singles portion of the event, while the duo of Dillon McRae and Madison Gostnell will be competing in girls’ doubles.
Mills-Zacapa, also a standout track and cross country performer for the Lady Cats, finished as the runner-up in last week’s regional tournament and will be among the better players in the state competing for an individual state tittle.
Chicharro, who was the district and all-Vernon Parish Most Valuable Player in soccer, also finished high enough in the regional standings to qualify for the state meet. He finished in the top eight in the region.
McRae and Gostnell were also among the top eight girls’ doubles teams in the region, allowing them to qualify for the state tournament as well.
