Weather Watch: Freezing temperatures on the way

There is an increasing probability that a cold front with some type of arctic air will reach Southwest Louisiana on Monday.

If that occurs, the cold period will continue through Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service’s Lake Charles office.

“If guidance trends continue, this will be the coldest air of the season for southeast Texas, as well as, central, south central, and Southwest Louisiana,” the agency said.

Forecasters said potential hard freeze conditions could occur Monday night into Tuesday morning and Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

Temperatures could drop as low as 21 degrees on Monday in Lake Charles and 17 degrees in Oakdale. There is up to an 85 percent chance of seeing
a low of 25 degrees or below Tuesday and Wednesday mornings.

“With the forecast this far out, it will likely change,” the agency said. “Since it is winter, it is always good to have a plan in place to deal with hard freeze conditions,” the agency said.
