GLENMORA — For most of the season, the Hicks Lady Pirates were one of the top hitting teams in the area.

But on Tuesday, those bats went silent.

Plainview pitcher Miley Thompson scattered seven hits over five innings and ended the game with a 3-run homer in the bottom of the fifth to lift the No. 8 Lady Hornets over the No. 9 Lady Pirates, 13-1, in the regional round of the Class C playoffs.

The Lady Pirates had an opportunity to score in the first inning, getting a pair of runners on with one out. However, Thompson forced Saige Hagan to popout and got Kaedyn Busby to line out to end the threat.

Plainview managed to score a run in the bottom of the frame as Brooklyn Taylor singled and scored on a groundout off the bat of Thompson for a 1-0 advantage.

Hicks responded with a run in the second as Destiny Hickman singled and scored on a two-out triple to right field by Madison Jones, knotting the game at 1-1.

But Plainview took the lead for good in the bottom of the second. Zoey Fee hit the first homer of her career on an eye-high fastball on a 2-2 count over the wall in left center for a 2-1 edge. A little later, Rhyen Wallace drove in Jamye Lynn Banks to push the lead to 3-1.

Dallas Cloud drove in a run on groundout in the third for the Lady Hornets to add to the lead and a 4-run fourth allowed Plainview to take a commanding 81 cushion into the fourth.

In the bottom of the fifth, Plainview managed two quick runs. Taylor singled and scored on a Wallace triple. Wallace scored on a passed ball to give Plainview a 10-1 lead.

Alyssa STanley and Caitlyn Johnson each reached on errors, bringing Thompson to the plate. Facing a 2-2 count, Thompson crushed the next Hickman offering over the wall in left center for a 3-run, game-ending roundtripper.

Thompson gave up one run on seven hits with a pair of strikeouts. But she was even more deadly with her bat, going 2-for3 with a homer and five total RBIs. Wallace added two RBIs and Fee was a double short of the cycle, going 3-for-3 with three RBIs.

Hickman suffered the loss for Hicks in the circle. She was 2-for-2 at the plate with a run scored, while Jones was also 2-for-2 with a triple and an RBI.
