HICKS — Hicks pitcher Zach Haymon couldn’t have been much more efficient.

The senior threw just 80 pitches over seven innings, 61 of them for strikes, as he guided the Pirates to a 3-0 District 3-C win over the Simpson Broncos on Thursday evening.

For the contest, Haymon allowed only two hits, while striking out 10 in picking up the win for the Pirates, who are now 13-4-1 on the season.

The Pirates got all of the runs they needed in the bottom of the first as they scored off of Simpson starter Ethan Nash, who struck out seven, but surrendered three runs on four hits over four innings. However, Hicks added runs in both the bottom of the third and fourth to secure the lead even more.

The Broncos managed singles from Tristin Williams and Mike Merriman in the contest, but were unable to move them around to score as the Simpson bats remained relatively silent as Haymon worked the strike zone to near perfection.

Brad Pelt had a double, a run scored and an RBI to lead the Pirates at the plate, while Cayden Cowgill also had a hit and an RBI.

Chase Taylor worked two innings of relief for the Broncos, giving up no runs on no hits.
