ROSEPINE — The Rosepine Lady Eagles did just what they were expected to do as they returned the majority of their team to the court this season. Pickering, under the tutelage of former standout player Nastasia Webber, wasn’t expected to fare as well as they did.

Both teams reached the Class 2A playoffs in 2002, with the Lady Eagles reaching the Ladies Top 28 for the second time in the past five years. As a result of both teams having successful seasons, both were highly honored by the coaches in District 5-2A.

The Rosepine trio of Kelly Norris, Taylor Farris and Nevaeh Rivera were named first-team all-district, while Posepine’s Addison Fruge and Pickering’s Arianna Yates were both chosen as second-team performers.

Norris averaged 14.1 points and 8.2 rebounds per game in league play for the Lady Eagles, while Farris was good for 13 points and eight rebounds. Rivera led the Lady Eagles in scoring in district at 14.4 points per outing, while Fruge notched 13.2 points per contest.

Yates led the Lady Red Devils with 11.5 points and 5.6 rebounds per game.

The Rosepine duo of Barbra Ann White and Kaydi Burge, along with the Pickering pairing of Alexus Hood and Lauren Mayberry, picked up honorable mention accolades.

Kinder senior Mackenzie Joseph was named the Most Valuable Player of the district averaging 17.3 points and 10 rebounds per game, while Kinder boss Taylor Gates was chosen as the Coach of the Year.

Joseph’s teammate Tanyiah Plumber, who averaged 17.5 points per game was also chosen first-team all-district, while the second-team was closed out by Kinder junior Megan Fuselier and the Oakdale duo of Emeri Young and Akeelah Hobson.
