LEESVILLE — It was a bounce back year for the Leesville Lady Cats.
After struggling the past couple of years to put wins on the board, the year’s version of the Lady Cats under the guidance of head coach Brandon Jordan enjoyed a breakout season, finishing in second place in the District 3-4A standings, making the playoffs in the process.
And as a result, several Lady Cats were honored with all-district recognition by the coaches in 3-4A.
Senior Amaya Thomas was named first-team all-district after averaging in double figures scoring, while freshman Shyann McCummings not only made second-team all-district, but was also chosen to the league’s all-defensive team.
Additionally, Corneilya Williams and Jade Leday were chosen as honorable mention selections to the squad.
Bolton standout Sky Montgomery was named the district’s Most Valuable Player, while Gary Stewart of Peabody was chosen as the Coach of the Year.
Joining Thomas and Montgomery on the first-team were DeRidder senior Alexis Harris and Peabody juniors Katrina Lavalais and Latraniece McNeil.
Along with McCummings, the second-team was comprised of DeRidder junior Ronnie Morales, Peabody’s Katreal Earthly and the Tioga duo of Abbi Troquille and Madison Lockwood.
Morales was also named to the all-defensive team, along with Bolton’s Latawndra Thomas, Tioga’s Jordyn Poindexter and Peabody’s Janaya Anthony.
DeRidder also landed a player on the honorable mention list in senior Kamryn Foster.
