The patriotic spirit of local leaders and residents alike was on full display Monday as the City of Leesville held a special Flag Installation Ceremony at the North Roundabout on U.S. 171.

Members of the Combat Veterans Association were on hand to raise the new flag high to symbolize the pride the Leesville community has in its country and those who defend it.

The ceremony was led by Leesville Mayor Rick Allen, and the invocation was given by the Rev. Maurice Johnson. Johnson is the pastor of Johnson Temple Church of God in Leesville.

The National Anthem was played shortly after the flag was raised, and a closing prayer was given by the Rev. Mark Christian, pastor of First United Pentecostal Church in Leesville.

Allen was not the only elected official present at the ceremony. He was joined by members of the Leesville City Council. Council members present at the ceremony included Chris Robertson, Willie Mae Kennedy and Nicole Ybarra.
