Wampus Cats, Lady Cats solid at Leesville Invitational

LEESVILLE — The Leesville Wampus Cats and Lady Cats showed up and slung a little weight around on Saturday at the annual Leesville Powerlifting Invitational.

Two Lady Cats — Chloe Robinson and Celine Chavez — along with Wampus Cats Baker Graves, brought home gold medals from the meet, while Jackson Bealer, Seth Haug, Rebecca Fournier and Layla Gamble each won silver medals for their efforts.

According to Lady Cat head coach Kamilah Todd, the meet was a tremendous success.

“I can’t thank everyone enough for making the Wampus Cat Invitational a success,” she said.

With numerous teams in attendance, the homestanding Wampus Cats and Lady Cats showed just why they are contenders at the state level once again.

On the girls’ side, the Lady Cats got a first-place finish from Chloe Robinson in the 165 weight class, while Chavez reeled in gold in the 114 division. Robinson lifted a total of 785 pounds en route to her win, while Chavez lifted a grand total of 595 pounds.

Fournier, competing in the 105 weight class was runner-up with a total lift of 465 pounds, while teammate Elizabeth finished third in the same class with a total lift of 400 pounds.

Gamble was second in the 198 class with 555 pounds lifted, while teammate Nattacin Meins was third in the same class with 555 pounds.

Kaitlyn Stennett won bronze in the super heavyweight division with a total lift of 750 pounds.

On the boys’ side, Graves was first overall in the 220-pound class with a total weight of 1,235 pounds. Haug set a personal best en route to finishing with silver in the 242-pound class, lifting 1,395 pounds.

Bealer, competing in the 123-pound division, lifted a total of 725 pounds for runner-up, while Baylor Belsha was third in the 114-pound class with a total weight of 550 pounds.
