Lady Pirates beat Hornbeck, Lady Cats fall short

SIMPSON — The Hicks Lady Pirates opened defense of its District 3-C title on Tuesday with an easy win over the Hornbeck Lady Hornets, 60-26.

The Lady Pirates (21-5, 1-0) struggled out to a 13-5 lead by the end of the first period and used a 13-7 advantage during the second quarter of action to claim a 26-12 cushion going in at the break.

However, it wouldn’t stay close for long as Hicks used a 19-2 surge out of the locker room to open up a 45-14 advantage at the end of the third. From there, the Lady Pirates closed out with a 15-12 advantage to secure the win.

Lauren Quinn led Hicks with 18 points, while Reese Stephens finished with 16 points. Avery Coffman chipped in with 12 points.

Danzey Forehand paced Hornbeck with 10 points.

Anacoco Lady Indians….48

Elizabeth Lady Bulldogs….33

ANACOCO — The Anacoco Lady Indians broke open a close game with a big fourth-quarter output, downing the Elizabeth Lady Bulldogs in district action, 48-33.

Bailey Davis led Anacoco with 14 points, while Paige Mayo and Abbie Dowden each finished with 11 points.

Danilee Coleman paced the Lady Bulldogs with 12 points.

Leesville Lady Cats……48

LEESVILLE — Despite building a big early lead, the Leesville Lady Cats fell just short of the visiting Sam Houston Lady Broncos on Tuesday night in non-district play, 50-48.

Shyann McCummings and Amaya Thomas each had 13 points for Leesville, which took a 15-2 lead after one quarter, only to see Sam Houston rally for a 23-6 edge in the second period, while Kathryn Keys came in with 11 points.

Lucy Bellon paced Sam Houston with a game-high 16 points, while Rachel Armesto added 11 points.
