Simpson topples Pleasant Hill, Anacoco wins

PLEASANT HILL — The defending Class C state champion Simpson Broncos opened District 3-C play in a big way on Tuesday night.

Using a 14-7 surge in the fourth quarter, the Broncos defeated the homestanding Pleasant Hill Eagles, 43-36.

The Broncos (15-6, 1-0) fell behind after the first period of play, 13-8, but rallied in the second quarter to send the game into intermission knotted at 20-20.

After each team scored nine points in the third, the Broncos were able to take control of the game in the final frame of regulation, coming away with the big road win to open league play.

Brayden Cutts led Simpson with a game-high 17 points, while Tristin Williams added 15 points.

Fred Edwards and Alex Calhoun each scored 10 points to lead Pleasant Hill.

Hicks Pirates….57

Hornbeck Hornets….42 

SIMPSON — The Hicks Pirates broke an eight-game losing streak in a big way on Tuesday night, defeating the Hornbeck Hornets in the District 3-C opener for both squads, 57-42.

Hicks owned a 28-17 lead at the half and watched Hornbeck rally to cut the gap to 37-34 going into the fourth period.

However, a 20-8 surge in the fourth proved to be too much as Hicks took the big win.

Landon Goodwin scored 24 points to lead the Pirates to the win and a 1-0 district start, while Hayden Doyle finished with 18 points.

Brady Alexander led Hornbeck with 12 points, while Jaren MItcham added 11 points.

Anacoco Indians……37

Elizabeth Bulldogs….17 

ANACOCO — Though both teams struggled, it was the Anacoco Indian offense which had a little bit more to offer in a 37-17 win over the Elizabeth Bulldogs on Tuesday in district play.

Anacoco got 15 points from Emanuel Luzardo to lead the way, while Chase Taylor added 10 points. Nobody reached double figures for Elizabeth.

Leesville Wampus Cats….79

Pickering Red Devils…..61

LEESVILLE — Daven Scott and Jeremiah Lee combined for 55 points as they led the Leesville Wampus Cats to a 79-61 win over the Pickering Red Devils on Monday evening.

Leesville used a 26-9 run in the second quarter, which proved to be the difference in the game.

Scott led all scorers with 29 points, while Lee finished with 26 points.

Desire Privitera paced Pickering with 20 points, while Landon Chattam and Marlon Freeney finished with 18 and 11 points, respectively.

Faith Training Patriots….93

Old Bethel…….26

LEESVILLE — The Faith Training Christian Academy Patriots did their best impersonation of the Golden State Warriors on Monday night, dropping in 16 shots from three-point land in a 93-26 win over Old Bethel.

FTCA jumped out to a 34-2 lead after one quarter of play and owned a 53-10 cushion at the half. The Patriots added 25 more points in the third before coasting to the victory.

Greyden Reese scored 21 points to lead the Patriots, while Emmanuel Brownlee added 17 points. Bryce Jackson pitched in 14 points for the Patriots.
