Rosepine tops Hicks in overtime

ROSEPINE — The Rosepine Eagles survived a late rally by the Hicks Pirates, winning in overtime, 80-77.

The Pirates owned the lead after the first period, 16-13, only to see the Eagles use a 21-18 advantage in the second quarter to knot things up at the halftime intermission, 34-34.

Rosepine continued building momentum and used an 18-11 scoring edge in the third to open up a 7-point lead going into the final frame of regulation, 52-45.

But the Pirates rallied with a 20-13 surge to send the game into overtime tied at 65-65.

However, the Eagles were able to prevail in overtime, thanks to Hunter Hines, who led the way for Rosepine with 30 points.

Hayden Brister added 15 points for the Eagles, while Isaiah Stinson and Braydon Williams finished with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Landon Goodwin led four Hicks players in double figures with 21 points. Damien Lavery pitched in 17 points, while Hayden Doyle and Connor Helton finished with 13 and 10 points, respectively.

HOLDEN — The defending Class C state champion Simpson Broncos came away with a big win on the road by defeating the Holden Rockets, 70-53.

Braxton Basco poured in 25 points for the Broncos in the victory, while Brayden Cutts added 23 points.

North DeSoto…..60

HORNBECK — The Hornbeck Hornets rebounded from their first loss of the season on Friday with a 70-60 win over the North DeSoto Griffins.

Jaren Mitcham led the Hornets with 27 points, while Brady Alexander and Devyn Sharp finished with 21 and 12 points, respectively.

In other games last weekend, Dustin Welch and Brayden Prichard combined for 25 points, but that wasn’t enough as the Anacoco Indians fell to the Natchitoches Central Chiefs, 48-39. Additionally, Pickering outlasted Pitkin, 55-43. No other scores were reported.
