Hicks, Hornbeck, Simpson win openers

SIMPSON — The Hicks Pirates had a couple of players reach double figures Tuesday night as they defeated the Negreet Indians in their season opener, 45-31.
Hicks was able to pull away late in the contest behind the play of Connor Harper and Landon Goodwin to get the victory at Simpson High School.
Harper led the Pirates with 14 points, while Goodwin finished with 10 points.

Stanley Panthers…..55
STANLEY — The Hornbeck Hornets were able to take the lead early and never looked back in beating the Stanley Panthers on Tuesday, 67-55.
Jaren Mitcham led Hornbeck with 19 points, while Parker Alexander and Devyn Sharp came in with 14 and 12 points, respectively.
Nolan Lifting paced Stanley with 16 points, while Tavon Pinckney added 12 points.

PITKIN — The defending Class C state champion Simpson Broncos opened the season Tuesday the way it finished last year, with a win, defeating the homestanding Pitkin Tigers, 66-42.
Four players were in double figures for Simpson (1-0), led by 26 points from Brayden Cutts. Frosting Williams added 15 points for the Broncos, while Ethan Nash and Braxton Basco chipped in with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Braeden Fordham led Pitkin with 15 points.
Anacoco Indians….69
Florien Blackcats….45
ANACOCO — The Anacoco Indians improved to 2-0 on the season on Tuesday by beating the Florien Blackcats, 69-45.
Four players reached double figures for Anacoco, led by Chase Taylor with 21 points. Dustin Welch added 14 points for the Indians, while Brayden Prichard and Emanuel Luzardo had 12 and 10 points, respectively.
Clayton Jones paces Florien with 13 points.
