Local teams to be affected due to LHSAA reclassification

Due to the pandemic, the Louisiana High School Athletic Association was unable to go through reclassification a year ago.
But this year is a different story.
The LHSAA released the enrollment numbers on Wednesday of its member schools as many teams will be playing in a new classification beginning in the fall of 2022.
Locally, a few teams are affected by the numbers, including Hicks in Vernon Parish, Singer in Beauregard Parish and Fairview in Allen Parish.
Hicks, with an enrollment of 122 students, has jumped back into Class B for the next rotation, while Fairview, with 106 enrolled, is the largest Class C school in the state, along with Summerfield.
Singer, which has been competing in Class B, will fall back to Class C as it has 91 students enrolled.
In Vernon Parish, Hornbeck, Evans and Simpson remained as Class C schools with 103, 93 and 91 students, respectively.
Hicks joins Anacoco and Pitkin in Class B. Anacoco is one of the larger Class B schools with 214 students, while Pitkin has 119 enrolled.
Merryville and East Beauregard will stay in Class 1A for a couple of more years, though EBHS was close to moving up to Class 2A as it has 231 students enrolled. Merryville’s enrollment was 177.
Pickering and Rosepine will remain in Class 2A this rotation with 257 and 328 students enrolled.
South Beauregard will remain in Class 3A as they have 513 students, while DeRidder and Leesville will both stay in Class 4A with 684 and 732 students, respectively.
