Golden Knights earn first win

VINTON – The first one is always the toughest.
Jesse Shuff ran and threw for a touchdown, while Ethan Jurquet added a score as the South Beauregard Golden Knights toppled the Vinton Lions on Friday night, 22-7.
The Golden Knights are now 1-4 overall entering district play next week on the road against the Iowa Yellow Jackets.
SBHS got on the board first with a 1-yard TD run from Jurquet before Shuff found Bryce Deason on a 28-yard TD strike for a 12-0 lead.
Vinton answered with a 44-yard touchdown pass from Lukas Bunting to Logan Beard, cutting the deficit to 12-7.
But a 23-yard field goal by Michael Veillon and a 2-yard TD run by Shuff lifted South Beauregard to a 22-7 victory.
Shuff ran the ball 19 times for 96 yards and a touchdown, while passing for 58 yards and a touchdown, completing 2-of-4 attempts. Both completions went to Deason.
Jurquet added 90 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries for South Beauregard.
