Houston – Funeral services for Charles Earl Shirley Sr. will be held at 1:00 p.m. on July 6, 2021 at Castor Baptist Church with Reverend Wayne Chance officiating. Burial will follow in
Castor Cemetery under the direction of Jeane’s Funeral Service. Visitation will be held at the church on Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.
Charles was born May 19, 1937 in DeRidder, LA and passed away July 1, 2021 in
Houston, TX at the age of 84. In 1955, he graduated from DeRidder High School and then began a long career as a draftsman. His first position was at Fort Polk, and he retired in Texas. Charles was a member of The Met Baptist Church in Houston and was
an avid fan of the Houston Astros. For several years, he coached Little League baseball and during that time helped introduce numerous children to organized sports. One of Charles’s talents was working with wood. He spent many hours in his garage
making model churches that he donated to various organizations. You could often find him outdoors enjoying fishing or deer hunting.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Azor Eleazer Shirley Sr. and Marie Estell Chevalier Shirley
and brothers, Clyde Shirley and Azor Shirley Jr.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 65 years, Shirley Cavanaugh Shirley of Houston, TX;
sons, Charles “Chuck” Shirley Jr. and wife Charlene of Magnolia, TX and Paul
Shirley and wife Sherry of Wilsonville, AL;
daughter, Dana Shirley Parcel and husband Mark of Waller, TX;
sister, Sharon Shirley Thibodaux and husband James of DeRidder, LA;
grandchildren, Danielle Shirley Garner and
husband Sean, Christi Shirley Vick and husband Chad, Matthew Shirley and wife Jessica, Sarah Shirley Wiggins and husband David, Amanda Shirley Huff and husband Casey, and Hunter Parcel;
great grandchildren, Angel Vick, Cooper Vick, Zaine
Garner, Kinsley Garner, Kyle Wiggins, Isabelle Wiggins, Brayden Shirley, and Barrett Shirley;
brothers-in-law, Larry Cavanaugh and wife Linda, Jack Cavanaugh and wife Pat, and Garland “Sonny” Cavanaugh;
sister-in-law, Huynh
Shirley;
and a host of extended family and friends.
Pallbearers will be Matt Shirley, Jeff Cavanaugh, Sean Garner, Chad Vick David Wiggins, and Casey Huff.
