Merryville dominates all-district selections in 4-1A

MERRYVILLE – The Merryville Lady Panthers dominated District 4-1 A to the tune of a perfect record.
And as a result, the coaches in the district rewarded the Lady Panthers with multiple spots on the first team, along with a sweep of the postseason honors.
Senior shortstop Alyssa Duncan was named the league's Most Valuable Player, while boss Jade Vizena brought home Coach of the Year honors.
Duncan batted .677 in district play with 21 runs scored and 13 RBIs, while Vizena not only guided the Lady Panthers to an undefeated district season, but also an appearance in the Class 1A state semifinals, falling by one run to eventual state champion, LaSalle.
Joinimg Duncan on the first team were teammates Riley Dyson, Harleigh Ferguson, Jenna Reeves and Brylee Lanier.
Dyson, the team's primary pitcher, was unbeaten in district play, while batting .625 with 11 homers on the season. Ferguson was responsible for a .385 average and 18 RBIs, while Reeves had a .360 batting mark. Lanier, a junior outfielder, batted .364.
East Beauregard also landed three players on the first team in pitcher Camryn Reeves, junior outfielder Kearston Byrd and senior Karly Bullock.
Reeves batted .458 as a freshman for the Lady Trojans, while Byrd held a .455 average. Bullock, who made the team at utility, batted .304 on the year.
Second-team selections included the Merryville trio of Kirsten Bell, Shaylee Lott and Hannah Harrington. East Beauregard's picks on second team were Libby Humphries, Sierra Burroughs, Lani LeBouef, Haley Guillory and Reagann Smith.
East Beauregard's Sheridan Elliott and the Merryville duo of Lindsey Townsley and Kaleigh Hudson were honorable mention choices to the team.
