Lady Cats take third at regionals, Cats fourth

SHREVEPORT – Leesville will be well-represented on Saturday at LSU's Bernie Moore Stadium for the Class 4A state track and field championships.

The Lady Cats and Wampus Cats will be competing in five and six events, respectively, as they took third and fourth in the team standings at the Region I-4A championships at Lee Hedges Stadium in Shreveport last Friday.

Lina Zacapa-Mills dominated in the long distance races as she won the 800, 1600 and 3200 meters. Teammate Natalie Smith took third in the 3200 meters,which qualified her for state.

Additionally, the 3200-meter relay team of Ruby Gross, Blyss Ault, Ayla Ault and Smith qualified for state, as did the mile relay team of LaMayah Lake, Za'Rieah Foster, Monica Ortiz and Ariyah Green.

The Lady Cats scored 68 points to take third behind Huntington and North DeSoto.

On the boys' side, the Cats were fourth behind Tioga, North DeSoto and Neville. Tioga had 130 points, North DeSoto 87 and Neville 72. Leesville finished with 62 points.

Antonio Blackwell won both the 1600 and 3200 meters, while taking second in the 800 meters.

Caden Bealer and Jaymeion Henderson qualified for state in the javelin and high jump, while the 3200-meter relay team of Leon Johnson, Jeremiah Lee, Izaiah Farley and Rashad Davis finished third and in state contention.
