Anacoco teams sweep District 5-B track titles

LEESVILLE – It was all Anacoco on Wednesday in the District 5-B track and field championships meet.

The Lady Indians recorded 258 total points, winning 15 of the 18 events in the meet, while the Indians scored 230 points in cruising to team titles at Leesville High School, winning 12 of the 17 events.

The Anacoco duo of Joanna Mawae and Brayden Prichard were awarded Outstanding Female and Outstanding Male performers at the meet as each won three individual events.

Mawae took first place I. The high jump, long jump and triple jump, while Prichard was the top competitor in the 800, 1600 and 3200-meter runs.

The Indians had three other athletes win at least two events with Brayden Blakeway winning the high jump and long jump, while Landen Wilder took top honors in the discus and javelin. Kaleb Goodwin won first place in the 110-meter high hurdles and the triple jump for Anacoco.

The Lady Indians also had a trio of two-event winners as Lauren Hunnicutt took home championships in the shot put and discus, while Skye Buentello won the 1600 and 3200-meter runs. Raylee Mitchell won both the 400 and 800-meter runs.

On the boys' side, Pitkin's Gage Thompson took home first place in both the 200 and 400-meter dashes, while Singer's Jeremiah Belton won the 100-meter dash.

Anacoco's Caden Cooley took first in the 300-meter hurdles, while Singer's Brayden Thibodeaux won the shot put.

Singer won the sprint relay, while Anacoco captured both the 800 and 1600-meter relays.

On the girls' side, the Lady Indians swept the relay races, while Laykin Cole, Grace McCall and Bella Henry each won individual titles. Cole won the 200-meter dash, while McCall and Henry won the 100 and 300-meter hurdles, respectively.

Singer's Monica Burnett won the 100-meter dash title, while the Pitkin duo of Abby Robinson and Morgan Woods won the pole vault and the javelin, respectively.
