Ebarb edges Hicks, Lady Cats fall

EBARB – Needing a win to play spoiler in the District 3-C standings, the Hicks Lady Pirates fell just short.

The Ebarb Lady Rebels scored a run in the bottom of the fifth to take a 3-2 victory over the Lady Pirates on Tuesday, claiming a share of the league title along with the Evans Lady Eagles.

Ebarb finished district play with a 9-1 record, splitting the season series with Evans, which also had a 9-1 district mark.

The Lady Rebels took a 2-0 lead after one inning and held that advantage until the third, when Hicks pushed its first run across.

The Lady Pirates tied the score at 2-2 in the top of the fifth, only to see the Lady Rebels respond with the go-ahead run in the bottom of the frame to secure the victory.

Camryn Cartinez led Ebarb at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a double, triple and two runs scored.

Jozlyn Westfall was 3-for-4 for Hicks with a double and an RBI.

LEESVILLE – Sarah McDaniel fired a four-hitter, while Kaleigh Carver and McKenzie Brooks combined for six hits and three runs scored as the Florien Lady Blackcats defeated the homestanding Leesville Lady Cats on Tuesday, 9-0.

Lauren Dees smacked a three-run homer for Florien in the victory, while Carver had three hits and and two runs scored and Brooks finished with three hits and a run scored.

Gracie Rutherford added two hits for Florien, while Emalee Anthony had two hits, an RBI and two runs scored.

McDaniel gave up no runs on four hits with five strikeouts, earning the win the circle for Florien.

Shea O'Dell suffered the loss pitching for the Lady Cats, while Madison Joiner and Mackenzie Waldrop got a hit each for Leesville. Amaya Thomas had a double for the Lady Cats.
