District 30 State Senator Mike Reese is the new Chairman of the Louisiana Tax Institute. The Institute was created in 2016 to promote and encourage the clarification and simplification of tax law in Louisiana. Senator Reese was selected for the leadership position by Senate President Page Cortez and House Speaker Clay Schexnayder.
“Senator Reese is an experienced businessman and community leader with extensive knowledge of how Louisiana’s tax system impacts residents and businesses,” said President Cortez. “I know he will be a great asset to the Institute as it continues its work studying and making recommendations on our complex tax structure.”
The Tax Institute serves as the official tax law reform agency of the state and advises the legislature on tax revision. It works to study existing laws, discovering defects and inequities and recommending changes to the law. It also reviews proposed and pending legislation. The Institute is comprised of 11 members from state government, business agencies, and legal associations.
“I sincerely appreciate the opportunity that President Cortez and Speaker Schexnayder have given me to Chair the Tax Institute,” said Senator Reese. “I look forward to continuing the work of the Institute alongside some of our state's most preeminent tax experts to improve our tax structure and make Louisiana more competitive.”
Senator Reese was elected in 2019 to the State Senate. He currently sits on the Senate Committees on Judiciary B, Labor & Industrial Relations, Revenue & Fiscal Affairs, Senate & Governmental Affairs, and Military and Veterans Affairs. He is also a member of the Joint Legislative Committee on Capital Outlay. During the 2020 Second Extraordinary Session, Senator Reese played an instrumental role in shoring up the state’s unemployment trust fund as well as securing critical funding for the areas hardest hit by Hurricanes Laura and Delta.
