Dr. John C. Young, 76, passed away in a local
hospital on July 13, 2018.

He was born on July 13, 1942 to H. Colman and Annie Scarber Young in Leesville, LA. He graduated from Leesville High School in 1960. He received his BS degree from Northwestern before moving on to
Tulane University to work on a MS degree. He completed his PhD in Mathematical Statistics in 1971 at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX.

Dr. Young was a professor of statistics who taught in the Math Department at
McNeese State University for over 40 years before retiring in 2007. He received the Distinguished Faculty Award in 1988. Early in his career he also taught at the local pipe fitters union. Later, he was a statistical consultant for PPG for over 20
years. He was also a supporting partner in InControl Technologies, a statistical consulting firm.

He co-authored a book entitled “Multivariate Statistical Process Control with Industrial Applications” that is still used as a
textbook in courses today. He was also proud of the fact that he encouraged many of his students to continue their education to get advanced degrees and succeeded in several cases.

John was a member of Ducks Unlimited for many
years and served as the Louisiana Assistant Commissioner of Agriculture from 1978-80. He will be remembered as an excellent cook, an avid world traveler, and devoted duck hunter. He will also be remembered for the many end-of-semester parties that he
hosted. Lots of good home cooked food, good spirits, and good times were always staples at his end-of-semester parties.

Those left to cherish his memory besides many loving friends include his wife, Pam Langley; son, Jeff
Young (Shalia); grandchildren, Cole Young, Greer Young, and Amelia Young; siblings, Danny Bolgiano of Virginia and Joy Beth Pavao of California; and numerous nieces and nephews.
