Shirley Burns

Funeral services for Shirley Yvonne Burns will be
held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 3, 2018, at First United Pentecostal Church of Leesville with Reverends Mark Christian, J.T. Wheat, and Jon Welch officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery under the direction of Jeane’s Funeral
Service.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 2nd at First United Pentecostal Church of Leesville.
Shirley “Kitty” Yvonne Roberts Burns was born on March 4, 1936, in Jonesville,
LA to George and Arena Goins Roberts. She passed away on December 31, 2017, at the age of 81. Mrs. Burns graduated from Kisatchie High School in May 1953 then started at Northwestern State University that fall. She married John Burns on July 5, 1956.
When John was drafted into the U.S. Army, they moved to El Paso, TX. After John’s military service, the family moved back to Leesville. Kitty finished her degree in Elementary Education and worked three years for the Welfare Department. She then
became the first principal of the Leesville State School. Her next move was as a teacher in the Vernon Parish school system where she taught for 13 years before retiring to become the manager of a Home Interiors and Gifts unit.

Mrs. Burns was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Kenneth Roberts; sisters, Margaret Roberts and Georgia Roberts; and daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Burns.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 61 years, John

Daughter: Sheryl Yvette Styron and husband Carlton of Lake Charles
Sister: Willie Dell Boswell and husband Freddy of New Llano,
LA
Grandchildren: Beth Burns, Joy Colleti and husband Reese, Dene Culton and husband Steven, and Chris McCall and wife Brandi
Great grandchildren: John Maddox, Wyatt, Brianna, Arys, and Sophia
and a host of extended
family.

Pallbearers will be David Wheat, Steven Culton, Chris McCall, Carlton Styron, Kenny Waterman, Johnny Gibbs, and Shawn Carter.
Honorary pallbearer will be Rusty Burns.
