A funeral service honoring the life of James
Patrick “J.P.” Monk will be held on Thursday, Feb. 2, 2017, at 2 p.m. at Mt. Bethel Baptist Church, 3255 Belview Road Leesville, with the Revs. Richard Partridge and Joe Wellman officiating under the direction of Jeane’s Funeral Service.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2017, at Mt. Bethel Baptist Church beginning at 5 p.m. and continuing until the time of service on Thursday.
James Patrick “J.P.” Monk was born on March 7, 1942, to Horace Patrick and
Mabel Wellman Monk Clark and passed away on Jan. 29, 2017, at the age of 74. J.P. was a member of Mt. Bethel Baptist Church and was a native and lifelong resident of Vernon Parish. He retired from the Vernon Parish Police Jury. J.P. loved being at
home and spending time with his family and friends. One of the things he loved the most was watching his grandkids play sports and playing with his great grandchildren. He was one-of-a-kind and had a unique sense of humor. His favorite thing to say
was “I wish I had a million dollars”. J.P. was always ready to lend a helping hand when needed. He will be truly missed.
J.P. was preceded in death by his mother, Mable Clark; his father, Horace Monk; and sister, Vertha Boswell.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Merelene Monk; daugther Kim Fetting and husband, Dicky; grandchildren, Laikyn Cryer and husband, Dakota, and Tyler Scott and wife, Hannah; great grandchildren, Tyler, Brooklyn and Hadley Cryer and
Madilynn Scott; sisters, LaJuan Prescott and husband, Jim, and LaVenda Keatts and husband, Roy; brother, Archie Clark and wife, Morgan; and a host of nieces and nephews.
