Rita Odom Sanders, 72, passed away at 8:30 am on Saturday May 21, 2016 in Mansfield.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 28 at 11 a.m. at Pine Hill Baptist Church, 128 Pine Hill Church Rd., Leesville. held:
She was born on April 16, 1944 in Leesville to John & Thelma Odom.
Rita is survived by her two sons, Glenn & Blake Noblit of Longview, Texas. She is also survived by her brother, Johnny Odom & wife Patty of Fredericksburg,
Texas; niece, Cathy Weachter & family of Nashville, Tenn.; niece, Jenny Tester & family of Portland, Ore.; nephew, Frank Perry Odom & family of Call, Texas; and cousins, Perry Lynn Cambre, Michael Mitchell & family of Diamondhead,
Miss, Patty Jean Singletary & family of Ragley, and Zyra Lynn Faircloth & family of Broken Arrow, Okla.
Rita grew up in and was a long-time resident of Leesville. She graduated from Leesville High and then attended McNeese State
University.
In 1962 she was the ROTC’s Little Colonel and in 1962 & ’63 was on the LaBelle court. In 1964 she was one of the Homecoming Queen maids. In 1965 she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Home Economics and was named outstanding
home economics student.
She worked at Houston Power & Light for a time and spent many years as a full-time and substitute teacher in various Leesville schools and also taught at Folk Polk.
Rita had an infectious personality
& a heart of gold. She never met a stranger. She loved the Lord & her family very much. She genuinely loved people and making new friends. She loved spending time outdoors & in the water. She also loved to sing, dance, play the piano,
& act in plays.
