Aubrey T. Temple, Jr. passed away at the age of 68
on Oct. 18 in Baton Rouge surrounded by family and close friends.
He was the beloved husband of Linda Hernandez Temple, father to Tim Temple (Amy), Candace Adams (Boots) and Ryan Temple (Ashley). He is survived by two grandsons, Bryce
Adams and Jackson Temple; and five granddaughters, Baylee Adams, Isabella Temple, Aubrey Marie Temple, Sophia Temple and Taylor Temple. He is also survived by a brother, Dewey Temple and a sister, Merlene Thompson.
A native of Leesville
born Aug. 21, 1946, Mr. Temple worked his way through college, graduating from Northwestern State University in 1969. Upon graduation, Mr. Temple was employed as an educator and coach at Merryville High School before settling into the insurance
industry in 1975. He was the co-founder of Amerisafe Insurance Company, which grew from a single office in DeRidder to writing polices across the country and employing in excess of 400 people.
He was the founding Chairman of the Board of
the Louisiana Workers’ Compensation Corporation (LWCC), serving in this capacity for the first 20 years of the company’s history.
Aubrey continued his board service and was named Chairman Emeritus of the LWCC in 2012. Through his
continual and tireless leadership, he helped stabilize the workers’ comp market in Louisiana and positioned the company for the level of success it represents today.
He served on numerous other boards and commissions over the years,
including the Business First Bank, Beauregard Federal Savings and Loan, Louisiana Superdome Commission, Coastal Restoration Finance Authority, Sabine River Authority, Louisiana Insurance Guaranty Association, Office of State Group Benefits, DeRidder
Chamber of Commerce and the DeRidder Lions Club. He was formerly CEO of the Temple Group, which later became the ICT Group and now is a part of Regions Insurance Group.
The wake will be held from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Grace Church, located
at 1021 W. First Street in DeRidder. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church, 2030 Hwy. 171, DeRidder.
Ministers officiating will be Rev. George Lee Glass and Rev. Lindsay Burns. A private family
burial will occur at a later date at Beauregard Cemetery in DeRidder.
Labby Memorial Funeral Home in DeRidder is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in the name of Aubrey T. Temple, Jr. to the
Baton Rouge Chapter of the American Heart Association or to Grace Church in DeRidder.
