Maggie Harvey

Maggie Laurence Harvey, beloved mother and grandmother, entered into
eternal life on Saturday, Sept. 6, 2014 at the age of 87, surrounded by her children.
Born in Toro on June 27, 1927, she was a longtime resident of Pitkin and a member of Gravel Hill Baptist Church in Cravens.
In her younger
years, she was an accomplished pianist and played for many different quartets.
Before partially losing her eyesight, Mrs. Harvey was an avid reader and enjoyed the challenge of crossword and jigsaw puzzles – a love she passed on to many
members of her family.
Visitation for Mrs. Harvey will be Friday, Sept. 12 at Gravel Hill Baptist Church in Cravens from 6-10 p.m. Visitation will resume Saturday, Sept. 13 from 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1 p.m. with
Rev. Jeff James and Rev. Arlen Smith officiating.
Interment will follow at Gravel Hill Cemetery under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of Leesville.
Mrs. Harvey is survived by her three daughters, Rayetta Thompson
(Monroe Thompson) of Alexandria, Jean Farabee (Ernest Farabee) of Shreveport, and Landa Johnson (James Johnson) of Pitkin. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Gregg Harvey Thompson, Brian Thompson, Ashley Thompson Jarvis, Michael Johnson and
Laura Farabee; nine great grandchildren, Steven Thompson, Drake Thompson, Emma Thompson, Megan Thompson, Claire Thompson, Jade Porter, Beth Jarvis, Grace Jarvis and Hadlee Johnson; and three great great grandchildren, Payton Thompson, Adelyn Thompson
and Camden Thompson.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, B.R. Harvey; her parents, Rev. John Frank Laurence and Emma Jean Laurence; and her siblings, Davis Laurence, Rilla Prewitt, Nathan Laurence, Ruth Hilton, Richard
Laurence, Rev. Homer Laurence, Myrtle Daniel and Rev. Cecil Laurence.
Pallbearers will be Gregg Thompson, Brian Thompson, Michael Johnson, Steven Thompson, Drake Thompson and Keith Laurence. Ricky Laurence and William Nathan Laurence, Jr.,
will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Memorial donations may be made to the B.R. Harvey Scholarship Fund at Pitkin High School.
The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of Grace Home and Rapides Regional Medical
Center oncology floor for their compassion and care of Mrs. Maggie Harvey.
