Averil (Edwards) Dunkel, was born on June 28, 1933 in Aberdeen, South Dakota. This is where she was raised and attended school, graduating from Aberdeen Central High School.
Margaret was united in marriage to George Shorley Sr. on July
22, 1951 in Aberdeen. For a short time, the couple made their home in Texas while George served during the Korean Conflict.
They later returned to Aberdeen and raised their five children.
In 1974, Margaret began her employment
with the Ben Franklin store in Aberdeen where she worked until 1985.
Her beloved husband died on Nov. 30, 1986. Margaret continued to make her home in Aberdeen and eventually began working for Super 8 Motel as a night auditor. She
remained there for many years, retiring in 2004.
Margaret spent countless hours helping as a Girl Scout leader and spent many years teaching Sunday School. She was also a volunteer for the Senior Nutrition Meals program.
In
her free time, she enjoyed reading and watching TV. During her retirement, she enjoyed spending several winters in Louisiana. Margaret’s greatest joy came from the time she was able to spend with her family.
