Funeral services for John M. Mitcham, 84, of Burr
Ferry will be held at 2 p.m. on Dec. 20 at the Oak Grove Congregational Methodist Church in Burr Ferry with Revs. Cliff Shadler, George Jeanes and Melvin Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Plunkaway Cemetery, under the direction of Labby
Memorial Funeral Home of Leesville.
Visitation will be held starting at 6 p.m. on Dec. 19 and continuing until service time Dec. 20 at the church.
John, the son of William H. and Laddle Mitcham, was born Oct. 2, 1929 in Evans.
He passed away Dec. 18, 2013 in Alexandria.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Detra Fleniken; and brothers, William Herbert “JR” Mitcham and Earl Mitcham.
Murrell was a U.S. Navy Veteran having served during the
Korean War. He retired as the Assistant Fire Chief from the Fort Polk Fire Department. Murrell loved watching his grandchildren play ball and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Abbie Kennedy Mitcham; sons, Dennis
and wife Sarah Mitcham, William and wife Geraldine Mitcham, and Lance and wife Donna Mitcham all of Bur Ferry; son-in-law, Jimmy Fleniken of Lake Charles; brothers, Roland Mitcham of Rosepine and Garth Mitcham of Beaumont; sister, Nellie Rose Stevens
of Austin, Texas; grandchildren, Stephanie Gill, Stacy Cook, Jerrod Mitcham, Shelley Alexander, Jakey Mitcham, Jeopardi Gill, Kody Mitcham and Justin Stephens; and 10 great-grandchildren.
