Funeral services for Ret. Sgt. 1st Class James
William Buchanan, 82, of Anacoco, will be held at 10 a.m. on Oct. 12 at the Labby Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Leesville. Burial will follow in the Good Hope Cemetery in Anacoco, under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of
Leesville.
Visitation will be held from 5-9 p.m. on Oct. 11, and from 9 a.m. until the time of services on Oct. 12, in the chapel.
James, the son of Charles Ray and Eva Green Buchanan, was born Sept. 27, 1931, in Kokoma, Ind.
He passed away Oct. 9, 2013 in Leesville.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Charles Ray “Chuck” Buchanan.
James was raised on a farm and went on to join the United States Army where he retired as Sergeant
First Class. He served in the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War; he received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He enjoyed working on small electronics and had a small shop behind his house. He loved fishing and hunting.
James is survived by
his wife of 56 years, Norma Buchanan of Anacoco; son, James Buchanan, Jr. and wife Kelly of Anacoco; daughters, Wilma Borders and husband Pete of Hornbeck, Wanda Buchanan of Allen, Neb., Eva Borders and husband, Dale of Anacoco, and Ruthy Montalbano
and husband Mike of Many; brother, Albert Frances Buchanan and wife Etta Mae of Kokomo, Ind.; sisters, Ida Buchanan and Ruth Buchanan both of Kokoma, Ind.; aunt, Lillie Bronson of Kokoma, Ind.; 13 grandchildren, Amanda Borders of Calif., Chris and
Sheena Buchanan of Hornbeck, Cleveland Borders and Shannon Borders of Slagle, Angie and Damien Maddox of Anacoco, Samantha and Chad Hall of Slagle, Nickie and Mikey D. Johnson of Anacoco, Katherine and Rhiannon Chapman of Allen, Neb., Christina
Borders of Anacoco, Jessie Buchanan of Anacoco, and Ashley, Brittany and Collin Montalbano of Many; and nine great-grandchildren.
