Funeral services for Haskel Lavaughn Roshong, 80
of Leesville, will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 6 in the Cooper Baptist Church, with Rev. Edgar Evans officiating.
Burial will follow in the Cooper Cemetery, under the direction of the Labby Memorial Funeral Home of Leesville.
Visitation was held from 5-9 p.m. on Sept. 5 in the Labby Memorial Funeral Home, and will continue from 9 a.m. until the time of services on Sept. 6 at the church.
Lavaughn, the son of Loyce and Essie Suggs Roshong, was born on Sept.
23, 1932, in Texas.
He passed away on Sept. 4, 2013, at his home in Leesville.
Mr. Roshong worked as a mechanic for Pierce Tire Company before being drafted into the United States Army in 1954. After his time serving his
country, he worked for Elmer Brannon at his service station. In 1957 he opened Roshong’s Garage.
Mr. Roshong was also a school bus driver for the Vernon Parish School Board for 50 years, and served on the Vernon Parish Police Jury for 12
years.
His passion was deer hunting with his dogs. He especially loved his special dog, Maggie, who he rescued from the pound.
Mr. Roshong was preceded in death by his parents, Loyce and Essie Roshong; two sons, Dennis Roshong
and Donnie Roshong; brother, Ernest Roshong; and two sisters, Ester Hollis and Velma Jackson.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Melva Roshong of Leesville; his children, Dean and Bobby Roshong, Danny and Kay Roshong, and Darlene
Roshong, all of Leesville; two brothers, Loman Roshong and Leslie Roshong, both of Leesville; one sister, Frances Orr of Shreveport; grandchildren, Kandi Moss and husband Peter, Brandon Roshong and wife Jessie, Adrean Hilton, Tyler Roshong, Tim
Prather, and Gilbert Prather; 12 grandchildren; and very special friends, Nolen and Kathy Hicks of Ft. Smith, Arkansas.
