Celebration of life services for Gaynell Smith,
89, of LaCamp, will be held at 2 p.m. on Aug. 15 in the sanctuary of LaCamp Church of God in LaCamp. Pastors Shawn Waggoner and Danny Baker will be officiating. Pallbearers will be Kirk Kirkland, Bryan Kirkland, Kevin McGoldrick, Douglas Monk, Ed
Nixon, Dixon Atchetee, Ron Roy, Don Grant, Michael Monk, David Bailey and Tommy Poe. Interment will immediately follow on the grounds of Laurel Hill Cemetery.
The family will be accepting friends for visitation from 5-9 p.m. on Aug. 14 at
the LaCamp Church of God in LaCamp.
Gaynell was born Jan. 13, 1924 in Hicks. She was called to her Heavenly home on Aug. 10, 2013. Gaynell began her spiritual life in Galveston, Texas in the year of 1955, which was a special time in her
life. She loved her church, beautiful spiritual music and sharing God’s word through prayer and the story of salvation. She was married to the love of her life Earnest for 68 years. Gaynell moved to Louisiana in 1977 to take care of her beloved
mother. Gaynell had beautiful green eyes and was a precious, family loving Christian mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She loved the Gulf waters and walking on the beach at Galveston Island. She enjoyed growing
colorful flowers and observing all of God’s nature.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Earnest Smith; parents, Dixon and Minnie Monk; daughter, Maxine Smith Thibodeaux; brothers, Rev. Floyd Monk and Sherman Monk; and
son-in-law, Hollis Dale Kirkland, Sr.
She is survived by her daughters, Linda Kirkland of Bay City, Texas, and Deborah LaBorde and husband Kevin of Spring, Texas; sisters, Flaudie Mae Nixon of Alexandria, and Dorothy Lea Atchetee of El
Campo, Texas; brother, Steve Abraham “S.A.” Monk of Winston-Salem, N.C.; grandchildren, Sherrice Barrett of LaCamp, Hollis Dale Kirkland Jr. (Kirk) of Bay City, Texas, and Bryan Keith Coston Kirkland of Bay City, Texas; great-grandchildren, Christian
Kirkland, Christopher Kirkland and Brenda Nicole Kirkland; great-great-granddaughter, Amerie, along with a special lifelong friend, Norman Haymon (papa Norman), and many nieces and nephews.
