Verline Davis Martin

Funeral services for Verline Davis Martin, 95, of
Leesville will be held at 11 a.m. on Aug. 3, 2013 at Mount Olive Baptist Church in Leesville. Burial will follow in the Pine Grove Cemetery in Hawthorne, under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of Leesville.
Visitation will be
held from 9 a.m. until the time of services on Aug. 3 in the church.
Verline Davis Martin was born in Leesville to the late Johnny and Beaulah Davis on July 29, 1917. She was united in matrimony to the late Joseph I. Martin, Sr.; to this
union, five children were born. Verline accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of New Hope Ministries in Leesville, under the leadership of Rev. Robert Eckerle. She had an unwavering faith in God.
She attended the Vernon
Parish Training School while continuing to be a consummate mother and homemaker. She was an excellent cook and an avid Fisherman. Verline was a chartered Member of Herione Chapter No. 71, Order of Eastern Star.
Verline was loved by many
and on July 27, 2013, at 1:39 a.m. God closed her weary eyes, the heavens opened wide to receive her and the angels rejoiced.
Verline was preceded in death by her loving husband of 39 years, Joseph I. Martin Sr.; daughter, Barbara M.
Jordan; and three sisters, Francis Hall, Eva Mae Wallace, Charlie Mae Wilson; five brothers, Willie Davis, Jewel Davis Sr., Sammy Davis, Johnny E. Davis and one brother who died shortly after birth.
She leaves to cherish her memories one
sister, Beaulah-Mae Garlington of Santa Monica, Calif.; one sister-in-law, Ruth Davis of Leesville; three sons, Joseph I. Martin Jr. (Delores), and Thomas R. Martin Sr. (Jeanette) of Leesville, and Eddie Martin (Cherlyn) of Baton Rouge; one daughter,
Jacquelyn M. Shaw (Donell) of Leesville; 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren, as well as a host of nephews, nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces, cousins and friends.
