Funeral services for Steven G. Netherland, 54 of Simpson, will be held at
11 a.m. on June 27 in the East Leesville Baptist Church with Revs. E.J. Bradshaw and Dale Mortensen officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Simpson under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of Leesville.
Visitation will be held from 3-9 p.m. on June 26 and from 8 a.m. until the time of services on June 27 at the church.
Steve was born Oct. 25, 1958, in Pensacola, Fla. to Clyde and Virginia Netherland. He was a 1977 graduate of
Simpson High School. He served for 10 years as an officer with the Leesville City Police Department. He retired in 2012 after serving 22 years as a Trooper with the Louisiana State Police. For the past year he has been a Deputy with the Vernon Parish
Sheriff Office in the Civil Division. Steve also served as the Pastor of Silver Creek Baptist Church in Leesville. He was a man who was loyal to his career as a police officer and faithful to his Lord as a servant. He was a wonderful and loving
husband and father.
Steve is preceded in death by his parents, Clyde E. and Virginia Netherland; and three sisters, Carol Hillman, Barbara Spurgeon and Lisa Netherland.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Shaunda Netherland
of Simpson; one daughter, Sara Netherland of Simpson; brother and sister-in-law, Mac and Lelia Waldrop of Leesville; nieces, Lisa and Trey Lewis of Leesville, and Shelia and Mark Bishop of Arlington, Texas; and great-nieces, Erin Lewis, Casey Lewis,
Megan Bishop and Kate Bishop.
