J.P., the son of William F. and Edith Holden Jones was born Oct. 10, 1944, in McCall Creek, Miss. He passed away October 18, 2012,
in Leesville. A lot of people also knew him as “Phil.” J.P. loved his wife Barbara and was her partner for 40 years. He dearly loved his children, Frances and Cindy and his grandchildren, Jason, Nikki, and Jake. His love for the Lord was next to
none; he was an active member and assistant Sunday School teacher at First Baptist Church of Anacoco. During Sunday School he loved to really get in some deep discussions on what the Bible was saying to everyone in the class.
J.P. fell in
love with his country. He served in the United States Army for 28 years. He was military all the way. He served as the NCO Academy Command Sergeant Major. After retirement from military service, he joined the Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Department
serving as the assistant warden and then warden at the Vernon Parish Correctional Facility.
He also loved sports. For many years, he was a high school basketball official, working every game that he could possibly work. He called several
state finals, playoff games and all-star games. He loved to hunt and fish, but most of all he loved his family, his country, and serving his Lord.
Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Basil Jones
He is
survived by his wife of 40 years, Barbara Jones of Leesville; two daughters, Cindy Hiaeshutter and husband Rich of Sparta, Mich., and Frances Howe and husband Rick of Leesville; sisters, Maxine Pine Pannell and husband, Larry of McComb, Miss. and
Wilma Frazier and husband Craig of McCall Creek, Miss.; brother, Vernon Jones of Smithdale, Miss.; and grandchildren, Jason White of Leesville, Nikki Howe of Leesville and Jake Hiaeshutter of Sparta, Mich.
