Ruth Marie Robertson Woodle, 89, passed from this world Sept. 16, 2012, to
a beautiful place called Heaven. She was born April 17, 1923, in Slagle.
Ruth worked for the Vernon Parish School Board for many years. She and her husband owned and drove a school bus. They also owned and operated Woodle’s Grocery &
Inspection Station in Alco. Their store served many people in the community and those who happened to pass by.
Any visitor that came to Ruth’s home could expect to be offered coffee and a bite to eat. She could cook a home-cooked meal
better than anyone. Who could forget her fried chicken and famous apple cake? She and Hoyt, Sr. spent countless hours at the ball field and in the many basketball gyms in and around Vernon and Sabine parishes. Every year they raised a garden full of
vegetables that she would cook and give away to neighbors.
Ruth loved flowers, eating sweets, cooking, and drinking coffee. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, and wonderful grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her
parents, Ida and Louis A. Robertson of Slagle; her husband, Hoyt Woodle, Sr.; her grandsons John Zuroske, Jr. and Jay Weeks; son-in-law Steve Weeks; five brothers and one sister.
Those left to cherish her memory include two daughters,
Martha Zuroske (Johnny) of New Llano and Joyce Weeks of Simpson; one son, Hoyt Woodle, Jr. (Charla) of Sealy, Texas; three sisters, Ruby Faulk, Bonnie Holifield, and Billie Dowden, all of Leesville; five grandchildren, Tami Rojas of New Llano, Janet
Edwards (Delton) of LaCamp, Kyle and Aaron Woodle of Sealy, Texas, and Shelia Stephens (Jammy) of Simpson; six great-grandchildren, Jessica, Morgan, Tyler, Chandler, Dalton and Dakota; and four great-great-grandchildren, Rylan, Hayden, and Brayden
Doyle and Weston Edwards.
The family will have visitation from 5-10 p.m. on Sept. 20 at Labby Memorial Funeral Home in Leesville, LA. The funeral to celebrate her life will be held at 1 p.m. on Sept. 21 at the Labby Memorial Funeral Home
